Counseling at Caris

Finding out you are pregnant can bring up many different emotions and challenges. At Caris, our professional counselors are here to welcome you, listen and help answer your questions. Our staff is committed to being there for you as you figure out if you are pregnant, then listen and support you as you decide what to do next.

We offer one-on-one counseling as well as support groups.

Why would I want counseling?

If you are pregnant – and you weren’t planning on it – it can feel overwhelming. There are lots of decisions to be made. Sometimes you need someone who can listen to you and respect what you’re going through.

Counseling is a safe place where you can sort through what you’re feeling and experiencing. If you don’t already have someone in your life who can provide that kind of support, we encourage you to come in and meet one of our counselors.

Counseling is an option, not a requirement. Try it out for yourself.

What happens at counseling?

Your counselor is there to listen to you and offer encouragement. When you show up, you will be warmly welcomed. You and your counselor will probably sit on one of our comfy couches and just talk. She may ask you some questions to get the conversation started – but really, your counselor is there to listen.

You have many decisions to make. Our counselors can help answer any questions as well as connect you with resources in your community that can help you out. There may be more options for you than you might think.

Plus, everything that happens at counseling remains confidential.

Who are the counselors?

Our counselors have all received a Master’s degree in counseling. You can expect professional services. You can also expect someone who will welcome you, treat you with respect, and genuinely care about you. All of our counselors are women.

What is a support group?

A support group is a place where you can share with other women who are also experiencing unplanned pregnancies. Caris offers support groups at each of our sites. You can get to know each other, ask questions and even make new friends. Many women appreciate just getting away once a week and being with others who understand what they’re going through.

Each support group is guided by one of our counselors. The counselor’s role is to help the group process what you’re going through.
